Pain or hypersensitivity
Spinal cord injury can cause both pain and hypersensitivity.
Pain is managed according to the individual situation and type of pain, so this means that you will be assessed and given appropriate medication as the first option of management.
You may experience hypersensitivity (or altered sensation) in certain areas of your body below the level of your spinal cord injury. This often feels like pins and needles or a burning sensation.
Good pain control can help you be more comfortable and improve recovery.
